I looked into SE a couple of years ago.  At that time maintenance was 
$1500/yr (and $5495 for the SE v18 license).  Given that the current 
price advertised on their website is $6995 (which I believe includes 1 
year of maintenance), it doesn't look like that has changed.

I will also mention that at the time I was looking into it, they had a 
promotion going on where I could get SE + 1 yr of maintenance for $3800. 
  So they do offer some pretty steep discounts at times.

When will they let you know what the actual cost will be?  It's odd that 
they couldn't tell you that up front.
