I suspect that a "kernel" is more of a descriptive name that an
object. It generally refers to the most basic/ fundamental/ useful
part of the code that calls other parts to do the peripheral jobs.
Sorf of the number 1 module or just the "main routine". As a
phenomenon - it's when a piece of jargon used by only a few people
comes into more common or widespred usage.
Or maybe not.
