(This is a CATIA-related question, not AutoCAD,
but my news-reader didn't seem to have a working
CATIA newsgroup)
I've been reading lately about "Generative
Mechanical Design", which is most prominently
implemented in CATIA V5, but I can't seem to
find much information on how it actually works
in practice (the overwhelming majority of
stuff is just vague marketing fluff :-)
So, tell me if I'm on the right track here ...
Does this system actually automatically
synthesise, from scratch, a manufacturable
design (in terns of the geometry of its
constituent components and assemblies, as
well as instructions as to how to manufacture
it), based on design constraints (such as,
say, forces, torques, etc), following
rules of engineering and manufacturing know-
how and best-practices?
Also, it sounds like this programme is
completely autonomous: is there, in fact,
any human input required at all (beyond the
design requirements) but, if so, where would
this input happen and how?
If I'm barking up the wrong tree, however,
what does this system actually do instead
of the above-mentioned guesstimate?
