With newer versions of AutoCAD, you get away from the "width by color"
issue
and can assign whatever width you like to whatever objects.  Do a search
on
"STB" vs. "CTB" to get a better idea of what I mean.  If you're architects
are up-to-date with their software, you might be able to resolve the
lineweight issues.
