If I remember right, haven't really played with 3DSM for awhile - you 
are limited in the number of slots - but that doesn't mean that you're 
limited to that many individual materials - just the number that can be 
loaded / displayed in the slots. Use the eyedropper tool to load in a an 
existing material.
